Drinking salted water. Is it crazy method to stay hydrated?

I’m sure that you are all aware how important it is to stay hydrated and to drink enough liquids during the day. Recently I’ve read some interesting, medical articles about the hydration and its influence on the general condition of the body.  We often forget how destructive could dehydration be.

Recent studies provide the evidence that people often mistake serious illnesses for simple dehydration, which is a deficit of total body water.
Did you know that migraine could be a result of water insufficient as well?
Some of the other symptoms are:

  • tiredness,
  • feeling dizzy,
  • dry mouth
  • and of course feeling thirsty.

I must admit that I didn’t really drink much water. Juices, tea, smoothies and coffee were always more attractive to me. They are not bad of course (they are still liquids!) but not as good as water in process of rehydrating. And it is essential for all body cells.
To stay hydrated you can put a small pinch of Himalayan salt on the tongue and drink a glass of water after that.

Why is it good?
Even drinking a lot of water won’t hydrate us as well as a water with salt.  Some people add salt straight into the filled glass, but I can’t drink it like that. I prefer to take a small pinch on my tongue and then drink a clear water after (as I mentioned above). Both methods are equally good.

Remember: it shouldn’t be the basic, refined kitchen salt,  but the one that contains a range of minerals (I’m using Himalayan because it’s really rich in those).
Salt increases an ability of the body to absorb water quicker. It also helps to keep important water and electrolyte balance in the body.

Since I started to drink water with a little bit of salt addition, I can feel some positive effects (my skin is not so dry, I have got more energy and nap is not a necessary point of my afternoon any more).

We loose minerals during the whole day and the night- it’s really important to replace them.
Bad news:  plastic bottles could be toxic for water (especially if they were left in the hot car for a few hours). A good choice is buying water in glass bottles, but let’s be honest: it is much more expensive.

Do you always remember about hydration?
I’m gonna challenge myself with drinking 1.5 l. of water daily. I’ll let you know how I am doing:D
Thank you for reading and see you soon 🙂

Baking soda- health benefits and features

You probably have got one in your kitchen drawer right now!:) I’m sure you were using it not only for baking but also for cleaning (it’s very efficient!) or as a fridge odour solution.  But did you know that baking soda (which is an alkalizing agent) also has got fantastic features and different health benefits?

You can use it in so many  ways, for example:

  • as an antiseptic solution: soda shows antibacterial and antifungal activity.
  • A permanent cough and sore throat remedy: try an inhalation with hot water and 2 spoons of baking soda.
  • Hygiene: natural deodorant (trust me it’s really effective)- paraben and aluminium free. Mix soda with a few drops of 3 % hydrogen peroxide and apply under your arms like a usual antiperspirant. You can also try it as a mouthwash or toothpaste (by adding coconut oil and natural peppermint extract). It’s  fluoride free and neutralises acids!
  • Heartburn relief: a half teaspoon of bicarbonate soda to a half glass of warm water, about 2 hours before the meal, but that shouldn’t be done too often (*read the explanation below).
  • Detox: by adding baking soda to your bath (as much as you like). It promotes toxins elimination and gives a relief to muscles and irritated or itchy skin.  Bath with sodium bicarbonate addition leaves skin softer and thoroughly refreshed.  It’s also helpful in case of yeast infection.
  • Anti- Candida supportive treatment:  1 spoon of soda to a 1 glass of warm water for maximum 3 evenings. (*read the explanation under the picture).
*Remember: PH of stomach should be always acidic! Drinking water with a baking soda for a longer period is a very bad idea. it neutralises necessary stomach acids and that could be dangerous for our health. Moderation is the key!

Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is a non-toxic, super cheap and really effective remedy for lots of problems. It balances our body PH and promotes healing.

Did you try any of those uses? Do you know other benefits of soda?

Slow juicer- how much fresh juice can I get?

Hello there:) As I promised last month in my post, (Click) I’m going to show you, how much fresh juice you can get by using a slow juicer.
Ingredients are very simple to give you a clear vision:)

First juice is made of:

    • pack of baby- leaf spinach (that one is from the Lidl-250g.),
    • 2 oranges,
    • 3 apples,
    • 1 celery stick (2 halves),
    • a slice of ginger
    • a little bit of water.

      The result:

      2 glasses on the left- 2x 250ml
      glasses on the right- 1x 300ml +1x 150ml
      = 950 ml of juice

Spinach is a great source of potassium, calcium, folate and B-vitamins. The taste of spinach is masked by all the other ingredients. That detoxifying juice is not very sweet, but I don’t mind- it’s full of antioxidants!

      My second fresh juice:

    • 2 big and 2 small carrots,
    • 2 oranges,
    • 2 apples,
    • a bit of ginger,
    • parsnip (it doesn’t give a lot of juice, but I like the flavour),
    • slice of lemon,
    • half celery stick.

      The result:
2 glasses on the left- 2x250ml
      glass on the right-200 ml
      =700 ml

Carrot juice is a source of potassium, calcium, magnesium, B complex vitamins and of course, beta-carotene and Vitamin A.  It slows down the skin ageing!  I love the taste of that juice, it is nice, delicate and sweet.

      And the third one:
    • pack of kale (Lidl again- 200 ml),
    • one celery stick (2 halves),
    • slice of lemon,
    • 2 apples,
    • 2 oranges,
    • a little bit of water.

      The result:

(Juice wasn’t so extremely dark- there was no good light that day:))
2 glasses on the left 2x 250 ml.
glass on the right- 300 ml
=800ml

Kale is known as the superfood- it is an amazing source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants (they help to protect the body from free radical damage).
Taste of that juice is specific, I think some people won’t like it. But you can always add more fruits to make it sweeter. For me, it’s OK as shown:)

I make my juices with Andrew James machine and I’m happy with it so far. Maybe I’ll change it for something different in the future. These look quite decent for a good price:

Let me know if you had any of them:)

I can really recommend juicing- it keeps me aways from sweets:)

Yeast drinking for a hair growth. Is it safe and effective?

I know that method could be controversial for some of you. Yeast drinking sounds quite weird and maybe even disgusting:) I can assure you it is a popular tip in the communities of hair lovers! It’s been proven that yeast drinking has got undoubted, positive influence on the general condition of the body, making nails stronger and of course on faster hair growth.

dry yeast for hair growth

I was one of the “yeast drinkers” about a year ago- it was on my menu every day for a month. (It sounds like the AA meeting confession 🙂 ) I’m not going to encourage any of you to try, I only want you to do some further research and think about it. Of course only if you struggle (like me) to grow healthy, strong hair faster. High five!
Yeast contains:

  • vitamin B complex
  • minerals such as zinc, selenium, iron and magnesium,
  • amino acids.

In my opinion, the best is fresh yeast, but it’s really hard to find it in the UK.  Sometimes you can get it from ASDA or Sainsbury’s bakery department. But don’t worry, dried yeast should be OK as well- I was using it.

month of yeast drinking, result, before and after

My hair usually grows about 1-1.3 cm. per month. After drinking yeast I had about 2.3 cm. more.
For me, it’s a great result.

(On the first picture you can see a good example of PROTEINS overuse- don’t do it:P).
My hair also stopped to fall out (it was in the spring, I usually lose some hair in that season) and  I also had a new baby hair! It worked really nicely for nails- they were much stronger and not so breakable.

How to make a yeast-drink?

  • 1 tablespoon of yeast (could be more)
  • about 150 ml of boiling (!) water

Put your yeast into the glass, add water, stir thoroughly and wait about 30 minutes.
Done!

It’s very important to use boiling water- it kills the yeast so it won’t ferment in your stomach. But it doesn’t kill all the goodies (like vitamins and minerals) from the yeast.

I’ll be honest with you- it’s not tasty. Some people mix it with banana and add for example cinnamon. But for me, it was easier to drink it as fast as possible and just forget about it!:)

dry yeast, growing hair

Don’t worry- yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) that you can find in grocery aisles or bakery departments is completely different to Candida albicans. The last one is a pathogen which causes infections in the body.  Yeast that we use as a baking ingredient is safe and doesn’t make any harm to our health.

Slow juicer vs regular juice maker. Andrew James Slow Juicer review

I always liked all kind of juices, but I was usually buying them in bottles or cartons from the supermarkets. Later I realised they are full of sugar and not healthy at all. The slow juicer wasn’t something that I could afford to buy, so I decided to have cheap, centrifugal juice maker.

Believe me, there were few really annoying disadvantages of it:

  • all the remains were still wet and I could make another glass of juice by using them only!
  • That kind of juicer creates some heat and it’s not neutral for nutrients,
  • it didn’t work well with leafy vegetables (for example spinach or kale),
  • it was very loud,
  • cleaning was a nightmare.

Since I bought my Andrew James Slow juicer about 2 years ago, I try to make a different kind of juices at least few times a week.

My favourites are made from:
  • spinach or kale, apple, orange and ginger,
  • carrots, beetroot, apple, orange and a piece of lemon.

Slow juicing is the best way to get all nutrients from vegetables and fruits, and you can be sure your body can absorb them easily. Unfortunately, there are some disadvantages of my juicer as well:
  • some bits of fruits and vegetables need to be pushed down,
  • it is quite loud, especially when I put some hard vegetables into it,
  • there was a problem with the silver ON-OFF button, but it was solved by the company.

Anyway, preparation and juice making takes about 15 minutes, so it’s not very long (slow juicing is just the name of technique, it’s not about time it needs:) ).

Since I started to drink those healthy juices I haven’t really got an appetite for sweets, I’ve also noticed that baby- hairs are healthy and shiny and my skin looks better.

Other advantages:

  • the pulp that comes out  is super dry, I wouldn’t be able to get any more juice of it;
  • juices taste fantastic, the flavour is always really deep;
  • I’m getting everything I could from my ingredients,
  • quality is really good for that price,
  • juicer looks nice on the kitchen counter,
  • it is super easy to use and clean.
Andrew James Slow Juicer is not perfect, but it could be a good start to change diet for more healthy. Here you can read original description: CLICK
Next time I’m going to show you how much juice you can get with some fruits and veggies.

Trapped by perfectionism. How to get rid of negative thoughts?

Perfectionism could be a real trap… What have we done with emancipation, girls? 🙂 Don’t you think that women today are expected much more than we expect from men? Perfect housewife, who’s also employed and has got time for make-up and regular jogging… And that joy and excitement painted on her face while cleaning the toilet. Because shiny bathroom defines her self-esteem:)

I know at least few couples, where a woman is trapped by expectations and perfectionism. And those girls are not treated well by their partners, who often want more and more every day. But honestly… Sometimes woman subconsciously wants to stay in her role, because it’s something she’s familiar with, gives her safety and a (very tight) comfort zone.

I mentioned that women are not always respected by male partners. Why? I think one of the reasons is that they don’t really love themselves, so they don’t believe they deserve more. You can’t expect someone to respect you, if you don’t really think you are worthy of that.
Leaving this state of mind is always difficult, could cause stress and anxiety, but it’s worth trying.

There are few things that helped me to fight perfectionism, maybe they’ll be useful for some of you.
  • Don’t focus on your mistakes. It happened and it’s in the past. Learn and start again.
  • Don’t be ashamed of your imperfections, they make a special and unique person.
  • Change environment. If you’re surrounded by people who make you feel low, and you haven’t got power to fight, just try to run away.
  • Find a reason of your perfectionism. It’s usually hidden in your childhood, maybe you always wanted to please everyone? It’s gonna be easier to close that chapter if you understand the reason.
  • Appreciate your achievements! Be proud and share your happiness.
  • Stop focusing on other people judgments. Whatever they think, it’s your life and your decisions.

Sometimes we can be overwhelmed by pictures and articles about perfect women. But let’s be honest – we never know what’s the reality and what’s just a creation.

We are all different, although most of us are sensitive and it’s really easy to hurt us. That’s our nature and one of the things that make us beautiful… Even with our imperfections.

Why do I love coconut oil? My favourite ways of using it

Coconut oil is a unique gift of Nature:) What can we use it for?
Every day I discover its richness, extraordinary features and benefits and here are my favourites:

    • It’s the only oil I use for frying! Oxidation of other vegetable oils starts really quickly when heated. This process causes the formation of the free radicals and they could be really dangerous to health. Coconut oil smoke point is high and even during heating, it doesn’t produce harmful chemical reactions.
    • Sometimes I use it as “emergency make-up remover.” I do not need to put any cream after.
    • Pulling oil is one of the detox methods. I try to do it as often as I can, but unfortunately, I can’t do it regularly. It should be done as one of the first activities in the morning. It works perfectly for the teeth (mild bleaching) and the overall condition of the body. That technique also helps to fight bacteria and boost the immune system. Remember: after pulling oil,  do not swallow it, just spit it out to the bin!
    • I put coconut oil onto my hair ( if your hair has got high porosity, coconut oil is not the best choice- it can make it more frizzy). Although my ends have a medium porosity, I still like to put some coconut oil for the length.
    • I like to use it as a base of natural scrub- I just add sugar and a few drops of favourite shower cream. My skin is nourished and moisturised after that treatment.

I usually use unrefined extra virgin coconut oil, because I absolutely love the smell (it disappears during cooking, so do not worry about your meals). I also have got a jar of refined coconut oil in my cupboard, just in case- I think it’s still better to use that one than other vegetable oils.
