Drinking salted water. Is it crazy method to stay hydrated?

I’m sure that you are all aware how important it is to stay hydrated and to drink enough liquids during the day. Recently I’ve read some interesting, medical articles about the hydration and its influence on the general condition of the body.  We often forget how destructive could dehydration be.

Recent studies provide the evidence that people often mistake serious illnesses for simple dehydration, which is a deficit of total body water.
Did you know that migraine could be a result of water insufficient as well?
Some of the other symptoms are:

  • tiredness,
  • feeling dizzy,
  • dry mouth
  • and of course feeling thirsty.

I must admit that I didn’t really drink much water. Juice, tea, smoothies and coffee were always more attractive to me. They are not bad of course (they are still liquids!) but not as good as water in process of rehydrating. And it is essential for all body cells.
To stay hydrated you can put a small pinch of Himalayan salt on the tongue and drink a glass of water after that.

Why is it good?
Even drinking a lot of water won’t hydrate us as well as a water with salt.  Some people add salt straight into the filled glass, but I can’t drink it like that. I prefer to take a small pinch on my tongue and then drink a clear water after (as I mentioned above). Both methods are equally good.

Remember: it shouldn’t be the basic, refined kitchen salt,  but the one that contains a range of minerals (I’m using Himalayan because it’s really rich in those).
Salt increases an ability of the body to absorb water quicker. It also helps to keep important water and electrolyte balance in the body.

Since I started to drink water with a little bit of salt addition, I can feel some positive effects (my skin is not so dry, I have got more energy and nap is not a necessary point of my afternoon any more).

We loose minerals during the whole day and the night- it’s really important to replace them.
Bad news:  plastic bottles could be toxic for water (especially if they were left in the hot car for a few hours). A good choice is buying water in glass bottles, but let’s be honest: it is much more expensive.

Do you always remember about hydration?
I’m gonna challenge myself with drinking 1.5 l. of water daily. I’ll let you know how I am doing:D
Thank you for reading and see you soon 🙂

I have never heard of salted water before. I have high BP, so I am pretty sure added salt is a no-no for me.

I know that I don’t drink near enough water. I am going to challenge myself to drink the same amount as you a day, maybe it will feel like I’m doing it with someone else. I didn’t know that about salt water, but it makes sense since salt absorbs water.

I had no idea that salt increases an ability of the body to absorb water quicker! I’m totally going to try this, I’ll give it a few weeks and see if I can tell the difference. I’m totally curious now!

I am doing this too. I take a pinch of Himalayan salt, put it on my tongue and drink a glass of water. It is the best! It helps me to fall asleep too. I used to drink a lot of store-bought juices but they did not keep me well hydrated. I became more thirsty and got a lot of cravings. My friend told me about this and I have been doing it ever since. This is also very helpful when I get headaches.

I know that the body needs electrolytes which usually come from a little salt with the thing we are drinking but I can’t imagine just putting salt on the tongue and hen drinking water. I’m curious about reading studies about this to show that it’s good.

I haven’t heard salted water. Ironically salts will make you dehydrated. On the other hand, lemon water will truly make you hydrated!

I noticed no difference between periods when I would force myself to drink a certain amount of water and periods when I just listened to my body. I think we make it more complicated than it has to be.

I am one of the crazies who drinks a gallon of water a day! I never thought about salt water! Kinda interesting
